It comes down to true happiness is found in the depths of yourself that you’re sometimes too embarrassed or shy to show. The person you are when you’re alone, the constant thoughts that occur in your head- that’s you. It’s you because no one can influence those moments. People often think that because their real self doesn’t fit the cookie cutter life/person of which is the current persona of “cool”, that it automatically means they’re lame, they’re weird, there’s something wrong with them. When really it’s that sick, twisted idea that 7 billion people can be the same person and find happiness, which is really whats wrong, weird and lame.

Extraordinary People in an Ordinary World
I recently met one of the most beautiful people I have ever come across. All I know about him is his name and the fact he’s in training as a server at Swiss Chalet, because I looked at his name tag. But from that solid 3 minute interaction of ordering my food he was able to show me how remarkable of a person he is.
While placing my order he had this bounce in his step and joy in his voice that left me feeling somewhat speechless and 100% humbled. When he was asking me the standard questions to get through my order, he asked if I wanted those little butter packages on the side, I replied no, thanks. He then went on to explain to me that he had to select the butter icon to complete my order, but it was okay because the butter was free anyways and it wouldn’t cost me anything. It was specially that moment that I probably will never forget. Here’s a guy who’s probably working one of his first few shifts, probably nervous, but going out of his way to make sure I don’t feel ripped off when I realize they included butter on the side after I said no.
So I stepped aside to wait for my food and I couldn’t help but watch from afar how he interacted with the other customers. He was full of energy, compassionate, caring and enthusiastic. I may seem crazy for speculating all these characteristics of a person by being in the same area as them for a maximum of 15 minutes, but he had this beautiful vide just radiating off of him that was impossible not to notice. He greeted each customer with a boyish charm and a captivating smile and told them to have a great day after he completed the order, and I whole heartedly believe they would continue to have a fantastic day because he said that.
My intention for this post isn’t to rave on about this awesome server I had this past week, but it’s more about all the people out there that are just like him. There are these magnificent people that have the ability of changing your mood from absolute crap to optimistic from just saying hello to you. They radiate this vibe of the purest joy you could imagine and walk through life completely oblivious to their wonderful gift. Unfortunately, the world isn’t filled with people like them. As these people grow up, they’re weighed down with the harsh negativity the world is filled with and they can’t possibly spread that joy enough to fight back. So eventually they unintentionally give up on that positive side of themselves because it’s too hard of a strain on one’s heart to constantly crave a happier world when it’s filled with such the opposite.
So before I left, I walked up to the cash once again and said “thank you for being an awesome and fantastic person. Have a good night.” Thank you Dylan, for reminding me that people like you make the world a place worth living in.
